QUEENS, N.Y. – The San Francisco volleyball team remained undefeated, improving to 7-0 with a narrow 3-1 victory over Cornell in the opening round of the 2015 Jack Kaiser Volleyball Classic at St. John's University. Three of the four sets were incredibly close, with the Dons winning, 12-25, 25-20, 22-25, 21-25. The Big Red gets just a short break before returning to action against Central Connecticut t at 4:30 p.m.
Sophomore outside hitter
Emily Wemhoff led Cornell with 12 kills and hit an impressive .290 (12-3-31). Helping the Big Red to hit .226 as a team was junior middle blocker
Macey Wilson, who connected on .467 percent with nine kills and just two errors on 15 attempts. Sophomore rideside hitter
Kit McCarty also hit .300 with eight kills and just two errors on 20 swings. Wilson and McCarty also posted four and three block assists, respectively.
Junior setter
Alyssa Phelps handed out 32 assists and posted five kills, three digs and two block assists. Freshman
Natalie Danenhauer tied for a match-high 13 digs.
San Francisco had four players register double-digit kills, led by Madison Murtagh's 13 kill. The Dons hit .320 as a team, thanks in large part to Murtagh's.600 hitting percentage (13-1-20).
