SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Sophomore
Lizzie Stewart won both her singles match and teamed with classmate
Priyanka Shah to win a doubles match, but the women's tennis team suffered its first setback of the dual season with a 6-1 loss to Syracuse on Sunday at Drumlins Country Club.
Stewart improved to 3-0 from the No. 5 singles position this season with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over her opponent. That win kept the match alive for Cornell (2-1), though the Orange locked up the doubles point and the first two singles matches. Syracuse won the final three matches to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Shah and Stewart won their first No. 2 doubles match of the dual season with a 6-4 decision over their opponents. Syracuse won a close match at the No. 1 spot to start the day's scoring.
Cornell returns to action at the ECAC Indoor Championships, which run Feb. 5-7 at Dartmouth. Information regarding the Big Red's seeding, opponents and match times will be determined early this week.
