ITHACA, N.Y. — Junior forward
Paige DeLoach scored her team-leading third goal of the season, but it was the lone bright for the women's soccer team on Saturday in a 6-1 loss to Princeton at Berman Field.
The lone goal for Cornell (4-9-2, 1-4-1 Ivy League) came in the 62nd minute on a play that started with a corner kick from senior midfielder
Elizabeth Crowell to the right of Princeton's goalkeeper Natalie Grossi. The service went right to the penalty spot, where senior defender
Kailey Joyce jostled with a Princeton defender. The ball popped back out toward the top of the box, where sophomore defender
Zoe McCormick tapped it forward, and DeLoach flicked it with her head into the net from 8 yards out.
Unfortunately for the Big Red, Princeton (10-4-2, 2-3-1) regained its four-goal lead a little more than four minutes later when Mimi Asom capped off her hat trick. Tyler Lussi capped the scoring in the 84th minute off a free kick with her 10th goal. Tomi Kennedy and Vanessa Gregoire also had a goal and an assist for the Tigers, who won the Ivy League title last year.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Meghan Kennedy made five saves in the first half for the Big Red, then senior
Kelsey Tierney added three more stops in the second half.
Cornell wraps up its season at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 when it hosts Dartmouth at Berman Field.
