ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's polo team overcame a first chukker deficit and rolled in the second half en route to a 30-11 victory over Hemlock Hill Farm Polo Club on Friday evening at Oxley Equestrian Center. The Big Red outscored the visitors 23-3 over the final three chukkers to improve to 6-0 on the year.
In a tuneup for the William S. Field Invitational next week,
Ignacio and Lorenzo Masias joined Dan Shaw in the starting lineup. The first chucker saw a back-and-forth battle that found Hemlock on top 8-7 after one. Lorenzo and Shaw seemed to be having trouble finding their normal game in the first before settling in, going on an 8-1 in the second to take a 15-9 halftime edge.
Shaw was replaced by Liam Palacios for the third and the Big Red increased its lead to 22-10 for the beginning of the fourth. Shaw replaced Ignacio in the fourth and Cornell cruised home to the 30-11 victory. Ignacio Masias tallied a game-high 13 goals, while brother Lorenzo had nine, Shaw scored four and Palacios had three to go along with one pony goal.
