ITHACA, N.Y. -- Without the services of leading scorer
Ignacio Masias, the Cornell men's polo team was still able to advance to the finals of the William S. Field Invitational before dropping its first match of the year. The Big Red improved to 7-0 on the season with a 30-5 victory over Skidmore in the semifinals before falling to Roger Williams 20-14 in the finals.

Dan Shaw started for the and took control right away, moving to a 6-1 lead after one against the Thoroughbreds. The second saw the Big Red blow the match wide open by outscoring Skidmore 12-1 to take an 18-2 lead into the half. From there Cornell cruised to victory.

Lorenzo Masias, Shaw and Palacios were again in the starting lineup in the finals. In a fast-paced
game, the Hawks took a 3-2 lead after one. Cornell matched the Hawks in the second and stayed down one at 9-8 at the half. The third saw Roger Williams increase its lead as the Big Red missed several opportunities. After three chukkers, Cornell was down 15-10. The Big Red could not find the goal in the fourth and had trouble closing the gap. The teams traded goals, but Cornell couldn't make a run in settling for its first loss of the year.
