Noah Baughman and
Brandon Womack earned falls over top 10 wrestlers, but top-ranked Oklahoma State was up to the task in a 23-19 win over No. 8 Cornell on Friday evening at Gallagher-Iba Arena. The Cowboys improved to 4-1, while the Big Red dropped its first dual meet of the season (3-1).
Realbuto became the 26th wrestler in school history to reach 100 career wins with a narrow 3-2 victory over No. 4 Kyle Crutchmer. His third period takedown was the difference in improving to 100-17 in his four-year career. He was backed up by Dean, who won his 131st match and his fifth straight bonus win against a ranked opponent with a thoroughly dominating 14-6 major decision over No. 6 Nolan Boyd. Dean avenged his only loss of last season by using a late takedown to secure the bonus points and give the visitors an early 7-0 lead in the team score.
After the Cowboys won tough decisions at 197 and 285,
Noah Baughman extended the Big Red's lead to 13-6 with a second period fall over No. 9 Nick Piccinnini. With the score tied, Baughman got the better of a scramble and ended with Piccinnini out of position. Womack added his eighth win by fall of the season to close the dual just 73 seconds into his match with eighth-ranked Chandler Rogers. The sophomore earned an early takedown and back points before securing the fall.
The Big Red returns to action on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. when it travels to No. 18 Oklahoma.
