ITHACA, N.Y. — Sophomore
Lizzie Stewart won in both singles and doubles, but the women's tennis team's comeback attempt against nationally-ranked Boston College came up just short on Sunday at Reis Tennis Center. Cornell fell to 5-4 on the season with the loss.
Stewart teamed up with classmate
Priyanka Shah to win the No. 2 doubles match, but 48th-ranked Boston College (5-4) won the other two doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Stewart then got the Big Red on the board with a victory in straight sets at No. 3 single, but the Eagles won the next two matches to put the match on the brink.
Junior
Alexandra D'Ascenzo closed Cornell's deficit to 3-2 with a win at No. 2, leaving the balance of the match on the final two matches going to a third set. Freshman
Michelle Wang fought back after dropping the first set in her match at No. 6 to win in three, tying the match at 3, but BC eventually won the final match to be completed.
Cornell's 11-match home stand continues at 10 a.m. Saturday with a visit from West Virginia at Reis.
