LINCOLN, Neb. — The men's tennis team recorded its second win over a Big Ten program over a three-day span, traveling to Nebraska for a 4-1 victory over the Huskers on Saturday afternoon.
Cornell (5-7), which entered the week ranked 65th in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, secured the doubles point and won each singles match in the bottom half of the order. The victory came on the heels of a 4-3 victory over visiting Indiana on Thursday afternoon.
The recipe for victory Saturday was the same as it was against the Hoosiers — the doubles point, plus victories from the Nos. 4, 5 and 6 singles positions. Vrabel cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 to give Cornell a 2-1 lead, then freshman
Karlo Lozic also won in straight sets at No. 6. That set the stage for senior
Stefan Vinti to clinch the match at No. 5, fighting off a first-set loss to win 12 of 13 games thereafter. Vinti also won his No. 3 doubles match earlier in the day, 6-3, partnered with junior
Dylan Brown.
Cornell treks east into Iowa for a match at 11 a.m. Sunday against Drake.
