DES MOINES, Iowa — Junior
Colin Sinclair and freshman
Karlo Lozic won their respective singles matches, but the men's tennis suffered a 4-2 loss to Drake on Sunday at Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
Drake (11-5), which entered the weekend ranked 36th in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, rolled to the doubles point and then doubled its lead with a win at No. 4 singles.
But 65th-ranked Cornell (5-8) came back to tie the score at 2 after straight-set victories from Sinclair at No. 2 and Lozic at No. 6. Starting with his first collegiate dual victory on Thursday against Indiana, Lozic rolled to a 3-0 record over the Big Red's stretch of matches over the last four days.
The remaining three singles matches went to three sets. While freshman
David Volfson was ahead at the No. 1 position, the Bulldogs locked up the other two to clinch the match and improve to a perfect 8-0 at home this season.
Cornell returns to the Empire State for its next five matches, including its final two tuneups before the commencement of Ivy League play. The Big Red hosts Binghamton at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 13, then travels to St. John's for a rare night match on Friday, March 18.
