ITHACA, N.Y. -- The defending Ivy League champion Dartmouth Big Green used an explosive offensive afternoon to remain unbeaten in conference play, winning a pair of five-inning contests by scores of 12-4 and 16-3 on Saturday afternoon at Niemand*Robison Field. The Big Green improved to 14-9 (3-0 Ivy), while the Big Red slipped to 4-16 (1-3 Ivy).
Dartmouth had 28 hits, including 10 for extra bases, in the two wins. Morgan Martinelli was 5-for-7 with three runs scored and three RBI and reigning Ivy League Player of the Year Katie McEachern was 3-for-6 with two home runs and four RBI. Karen Chaw had eight RBI in the two games, going 4-for-7 with a pair of doubles and a homer.
For the Big Red,
Rebecca Kubena was 3-for-6 with a double and a home run and
Emily Weinberg was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate in game two.
Game OneDartmouth jumped out to a 10-0 lead and stifled a fifth-inning comeback effort to keep the game going before shutting the door on the Big Red after five innings.
Kubena and
Megan Murray each had two hits and drove in a pair of runs to pace the offense and
Maddie Orcutt was solid out of the bullpen, surrendering three hits and two runs with a pair of strikeouts in the final two innings.
McEachern homered fro Dartmouth, which also got a complete game win from Morgan McCalmon, who surrendered seven hits and all four runs while striking out four.
Game TwoDartmouth led 15-0 after three innings and had plenty of separation once the Big Red bats started to wake up in the fourth. Kubena homered for the second time this season and
Ivey Wagner and
Tori Togashi each doubled, while Weinberg singled three times.
Zoe Hernandez also made the play of the day, robbing a McEachern home run over the centerfield fence. Weinberg also threw out a runner at the plate in the fifth inning trying to score from second with a 14-run lead on a single.
Breanna Ethridge tossed a complete game in the victory, allwing seven hits in five innings. Martinelli was 3-for-3 at the plate and both Chaw and Maddie Damore drove in four runs.
