Men's Hockey Announces Five Additions to 2016-17 Roster

2016-17 Men's Hockey Roster

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell men's ice hockey program has announced five additions to the program for the 2016-17 season. Mike Schafer, who will return for his 22nd season as the Jay R. Bloom '77 Head Coach of Men's Hockey, announced the additions Monday as the team attempts to win its 13th ECAC Hockey championship and make its 20th NCAA tournament appearance.

"Gone are the days where you can physically punish teams, so now you have to intimidate with speed," Schafer said. "With this class, they're all tremendous skaters and have great skills and offensive instincts. They're going to increase our team's speed and skill level and improve our ability to play at a faster pace."

There are four forwards and one defenseman among the newcomers. For a second straight year, Cornell will return all three of its goaltenders. The team's captains for the 2016-17 season, as well as its schedule, will be released at a later date.
