Box Score (PDF)

POTSDAM, N.Y. – Sophomore Marlène Boissonnault made a career-high 29 saves while classmates Micah Hart and Pippy Gerace each scored a goal in the final 10 minutes of the third period to help the #10 women's hockey team top #3 Clarkson in an ECAC Hockey battle on Friday night at Cheel Arena. It was the first conference loss of the season for the Golden Knights - ending an 18-game unbeaten streak - and also the Cornell program's 550th win.

After a back-and-forth first couple of minutes, Cornell created some offensive rushes with the best scoring chance coming when sophomore Diana Buckley and freshman Amy Curlew nearly combined on an odd-man rush but the pass to Curlew went just out of reach at the right post.

Cornell outshot the Knights 8-3 in the first 10 minutes but Clarkson took advantage of an icing and was able to build pressure of its own. Despite Clarkson's persistence at both ends of the period, the Big Red stayed calm defensively and got a difficult blocker save from Boissonnault on a penalty kill and a blocked shot from the co-captain Hart to enter the break scoreless.

The Knights came out with the early edge in the second period but Boissonnault picked up right where she left off in the first period and turned away three difficult shots in the first three minutes before going on to make 15 saves in the second period for a two period total of 25.

With Cornell in the box on three occasions during the middle frame, the sophomore made eight saves on the penalty kill, pushing to her right to stop a one-time attempt at the post and on four separate occasions, tracking shots from the point that were tipped on the way through by getting a piece of the puck with her pads and paddle.

It was just the first time this season that Clarkson was held scoreless through the first two periods of play.

The Big Red picked up the pace as the final period began, putting five shots on goal in the first four minutes. Cornell earned multiple power-plays and finally capitalized during a 4-on-3 when Hart, down low at the right post, stuffed the puck home after freshman Jaime Bourbonnais and senior Hanna Bunton circulated it down low.

Clarkson pulled the goal back four minutes later when defenseman Josiane Pozzebon jumped into the play and was fed the puck as she streaked towards the left post for a game-tying finish but Cornell's Class of 2019 was not done.

With under two minutes to play, senior co-captain Kaitlin Doering took a shot that bounced around in front of the net and Bunton picked it up near the left circle before directing the puck towards the goal. Tiley fell to the ground and Gerace, also falling to the ice, was able to sneak the puck past Tiley and into the net for her fifth goal of the year.

Bunton and Bourbonnais both finished with two assists. Boissonnault moved to 7-1-1 on the year while Tiley moved to 14-4-4.

Cornell held on for the final 1:46 seconds of play to earn the 2-1 win and move to 13-5-2 overall and 9-2-2 in ECAC Hockey play. Clarkson, which fell to 17-4-4 and 11-1-1 in league play, held the final edge in shots on goal, 30-26.

The Big Red returns to action tomorrow afternoon when it heads to St. Lawrence to take on the Saints at 3 p.m.
