ITHACA, N.Y. – After notching the game-winning goal against Harvard to secure Cornell's first Ivy League win of the season, George Pedlow was named the Ivy League Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Pedlow found the back of the net just nine minutes into the game to solidify the 1-0 win against the Crimson on Saturday. The result was significant in that it marked the first time since 2012 that Cornell has reigned victorious over Harvard and also extended the team's unbeaten streak to five games, its longest since 2013.
The sophomore's goal came from an assist via Ryan Hill who sent a wide service from the left side of the field. Pedlow then finished off the play as he leapt up and headed to ball into the bottom right corner of the net.
A native of London, England, Pedlow is one of five Big Red players to start in all 10 games thus far and currently leads the team in points (7) after tallying three goals and one assist on the season. The sophomore is also second on the team in shots (15).
Pedlow is now the third Cornell player in a row to garner weekly honors from the league. Two weeks ago, freshman Richie Hrncir swept the awards while Caleb McAuslan was named the Rookie of the Week last week.
The team will be back in action tomorrow as it faces regional rival Colgate for a 7 p.m. matchup at Berman Field.
