ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's polo team split a weekend, including topping regional foe Harvard 22-1 on Saturday evening on the road. The Big Red also dropped a tight 16-14 contest at home to the Central New York Polo Club, who was a last-minute replacement for Kentucky, which suffered through a team-wide virus that forced them to cancel their trip.
On Friday evening, the game was a battle from the first throw-in and the lead changed hands five times in the first half ending with CNY ahead 10-7 at the break. The Big Red regrouped in the third, tying the match at 11-11 with a minute to go. CNY Polo Club then tallied twice more to take a 13-11 lead into the fourth. Cornell again responded to tie it at 13-13, then again at 14-14. The visitors tallied a 16th goal with 20 seconds left to take the game 16-14, handing Cornell its second loss of the season.
On Saturday the men traveled to Harvard for their first Regional match of the year. Cornell came out strong against the Crimson, jumping out to a 7-0 lead after one. The Big Red continued its run in the second, increasing its lead to 12-0 at the half. Cornell cruised from there on out, dominating Harvard to reach the final tally of 22-1.
