ITHACA, N.Y. — Senior
Colin Sinclair and sophomore
David Volfson clinched the doubles point, then went on to win their respective singles matches to lead the men's tennis team to a 4-1 victory over Clemson on Friday afternoon at Reis Tennis Center.
Cornell (9-1), which enters the weekend with an Intercollegiate Tennis Association national ranking of 24th, started up with a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles from the senior tandem of
Bernardo Casares Rosa and
Chris Vrabel. Sinclair and Volfson then clinched at No. 1 to give the Big Red a 1-0 lead.
Clemson (8-3), which is ranked 43th in the nation, equalized at No. 1 singles before Cornell took control for hood. In his second singles match of the dual season, Volfson closed out his opponent at No. 2 to give the Big Red the lead. Vrabel won in similarly dominant fashion at No. 3, then senior
Colin Sinclair clinched the match at No. 4 by winning in a second-set tie-breaker. Cornell improved to 3-0 all-time against Clemson.
The Big Red is next in action on Sunday with a pair of matches at Reis Tennis Center. Cornell takes on 31st-ranked Wisconsin (5-1) at 11 a.m., then wraps up the day at 4 p.m. against Colgate.
