ITHACA, N.Y. — The women's tennis team will move into Ivy League play with a six-match winning streak, thanks to a 7-0 victory over Binghamton on Sunday afternoon at Reis Tennis Center.
Cornell (10-4) improved to 17-2 all-time against Binghamton (4-13) in dominating fashion. Two of the three doubles matches ended in the minimum six games, then the Big Red won five of six singles matches in straight sets. Sophomore
Mariko Iinuma (No. 5) and junior
Madison Stevens (No. 6) had matching 6-0, 6-1 victories, and senior
Alexandra D'Ascenzo (No. 2) and junior
Lizzie Stewart (No. 4) were nearly just as effective with 6-0, 6-2 wins.
Stewart remains tied with junior
Priyanka Shah (No. 3) for the team lead with 10 singles victories. Senior
Marika Cusick then capped the sweep by rallying from a first-set deficit and winning comfortably in a super tiebreaker.
The Big Red will now turn its attention to Ivy League play, starting with a 1 p.m. Saturday match against Columbia at Reis Tennis Center.
