#7/7 Women's Hockey Ties Mercyhurst 4-4

ERIE, Pa. -- The No. 7/7 Cornell women's ice hockey team tied Mercyhurst, 4-4, Saturday evening at the Mercyhurst Ice Arena. Cornell is now 4-1-1 on the season, while the tie puts Mercyhurst at 6-6-1. 
 
Maddie Mills led the Big Red with two goals. Mills now leads the team in points with nine on the season.
 
The first of Mills' tallies came with 12:05 left in the second period with Mercyhurst on the power play. Mills found the back of the net with the helper coming from Paige Lewis. The goal was the Big Red's second shorthanded tally of the season.
 
Mills' second goal came just under five minutes later, though this time with Cornell on the power play. Willow Slobodzian and Grace Graham assisted on the goal that put the Big Red up 3-0.
 
The first of the Big Red's goals came earlier in the second period. Pippy Gerace found the back of the net for her third goal of the season with the assists credited to Lenka Serdar and Paige Lewis.
 
Mercyhurst came storming back with four consecutive goals. The Lakers added a tally off the stick of Alexa Vasko with just under three minutes remaining in the second. Then Sarah Hine scored twice in the span of 1:11 to even the score at three. Mary Katherine Gialames gave Mercyhurst its first lead of the night with 7:42 left in the third.
 
Lenka Serdar answered Gialames' goal less than a minute later with the Big Red on the power play to even the score at four and eventually send the game to overtime.Cornell went 2-for-3 on the power play on the evening.
 
In the additional frame, Lindsay Browning, who made her first appearance in net this season, made three saves. Browning finished the evening with a total of 27 saves.

The Big Red returns to action at 1 p.m. Sunday when it takes on Mercyhurst for the second game of the weekend series.
