NEW YORK — The men's squash team won each of its matches from the top three positions, but Virginia used a pair of five-game victories to quell the upset bid and secure a 5-4 victory on Saturday at SL Green StreetSquash.
Cornell (1-2), which opened the weekend tabbed 16th in the Dunlop College Squash Rankings, got strong three-game wins from sophomore
Yohann Surti (No. 9) and freshman
Charles Culhane (No. 2).
Senior
Andy Muran improved to 3-0 this season with a four-game win at No. 1, and senior
Perry Hanson rallied from two down to win in five at No. 3 to keep the match alive. But 12th-ranked Virginia (4-4) broke a 4-all tie with a five-game victory at No. 6 to win.
The Big Red is back in action at noon Sunday, when it opens Ivy League play against third-ranked Columbia at SL Green StreetSquash.
