PRINCETON, N.J. – The women's tennis team finished in fourth place at the ECAC Indoor Championships on Sunday after dropping a 4-0 decision to Brown at Jadwin Gymnasium.
The annual eight-team tournament was hosted by Princeton, with this year's field consisting entirely of Ivy League programs. After claiming a three-way share of the Ivy League title in 2017, Cornell was presented the No. 3 seed for the event. The Big Red defeated sixth-seeded Yale in its opener, then was defeated by second-seeded Dartmouth on Saturday to set up Sunday's clash with fifth-seeded Brown.
The Bears took an early lead by winning the bottom two doubles matches comfortably. Two of the three unfinished singles matches were in a third set, including sophomore
Ananya Dua at No. 3 and junior
Michelle Wang at No. 6.
But Brown clinched the match by winning the other three in in straight sets, leaving the Big Red to settle for fourth on the weekend.
Cornell returns home for its next six matches at Reis Tennis Center in Ithaca, N.Y., starting with a visit from Connecticut at 5:30 p.m. Friday and Rutgers at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 18.
