Big Red Rewind:
•   Cornell was swept by defending Ivy League champion Yale in a three-game series at Hoy Field. The Bulldogs' 7-4 victories on Saturday and Monday bookended a bizarre 8-7 win in 10 innings on Sunday.
•   Will Simoneit has eight hits over the Big Red's last four games, including the first two three-hit games of his career. The second was the series opener against Yale, in which Cornell scored three runs over the final two innings before the rally fell short.
•   The middle game of the set was delayed twice by quick bursts of snow and a few lead changes. Ellis Bitar was 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI single in the seventh inning that tied the score at 7. The Bulldogs pushed across the eventual winning run on a rare RBI strikeout after a runner from third scored when the Big Red threw to first base for the putout after third strike hit the turf.
•   All 20 hits in the series finale on Monday were singles. Cornell starter Tyler Fernandez was very effective through five innings, but ran into trouble in his third time through the Yale order. The Bulldogs pushed four runs across in the sixth to take control, including a two-run single from Dai Dai Otaka.
•   Cornell has won its only two midweek non-league games so far this year. The first was a fog-shortened 10-6 decision March 28 at Penn State, and the second was last Wednesday's 6-5 win over Canisius on Trey Baur's walk-off, two-run double in the 10th.
•   Josh Arndt is currently riding a 10-game hitting streak, which is the team's longest this season and the longest since Tommy Wagner '17 had hits in 13 straight last year.

The Long Road:
•   While Cornell's record sits at 5-14, the Big Red is just a couple games under .500 since starting the season with seven straight losses. With one the team's most challenging starts to the season in recent memory, Cornell started off at Texas A&M and Duke. While the Big Red was swept in both sets, the season opener against the Aggies was a one-run game, 3-2.
•   Before finally debuting at home on March 25, the Big Red also played three games Match 17-18 at Fordham. Cornell's first victory came in the second game after a ninth  inning rally to send the game to an extra inning and the go-ahead run in the 10th.

On Offense:
•   Though the Big Red is batting .223 for the season, it's also trending in the right direction with a respectable .259 average over the last 10 games. Cornell boasts four batters with an average of at least .280 over that stretch.
•   Cornell has scored 67 runs in last 10 (6.70 per game) after plating just 21 in its first nine (2.33 per game).
•   Senior Kyle Gallagher continues to pace the offense with a .328 average and an on base percentage of .500, which ranks 17th-highest in the country. He's drawn 23 walks in just 19 games, which gives him the second-highest walks per game ratio nationally (1.21).
•   Senior Ryan Krainz, an 2017 All-Ivy League first team selection and the team's typical leadoff hitter, has reached base in 17 straight games.
•   Senior Ellis Bitar, who sometimes bats one spot behind Krainz in the order, leads the team with 14 runs scored and has reached in 15 straight. He ranks second on the team with a .271 average and has driven in 10 runs in the last 10 games.
•   Senior Dale Wickham leads the team with 15 RBI and his .375 on base percentage ranks third on the team, aided by being hit with eight pitches this year. That's an average of 0.44 hit-by-pitches per game, 10th-highest in the country.

On The Mound:
•   Sophomore Jeb Bemiss (1-1, 7.36) is scheduled to start. He worked 4.1 innings with no walks and five strikeouts over two scoreless outings over the last week. His 18.1 innings of relief lead the team.
•   Seniors Tim Willittes and Tyler Fernandez, and sophomore Seth Urbon started games in the Yale series, thus are unlikely to appear in the game vs. Binghamton.
•   Sophomores Colby Wyatt (0-1, 3.78, 2 SV) and Andrew Ellison (1-3, 2.77) have emerged as two of the team's top bullpen arms. Wyatt has 21 strikeouts in just 16.2 innings and earned two saves in the last couple weeks. Ellison has yielded just one extra-base hit in 13 innings over six appearances.
•   Cornell freshman pitchers have yet to allow a run this year, though they have only accounted for 2.2 innings over five outings this year. Garrett Bailey, Nicholas Binnie and Trevor Daniel Davis are behind that effort, with Binnie earning a victory in his first collegiate outing last Wednesday vs. Canisius.

Making History:
•   Varsity baseball at Cornell started in 1869, so program firsts are few and far between two centuries later — but seniors Dale Wickham and Trey Baur have provided a couple over the last two years.
•   On May 1, 2016, Wickham became the first Big Red player to hit three home runs in a game. To make the feat even more impressive, he did it in his only three at-bats of a seven-inning game to open a doubleheader at Princeton.
•   On April 5, 2017, Baur was at the forefront of Cornell's 27-14 lambasting of Towson. He was 6-for-7 with two doubles and a home run, becoming the first player in program history with six hits in a single game.

Gridiron Gang:
•   Cornell has two players on its roster who have also played for the football team in senior outfielder Kyle Gallagher and senior pitcher Austin Wahl
•   Gallagher became an everyday outfielder for the Big Red last season after playing five games at quarterback with the football team as a freshman. Wahl was a safety on the scout team in 2013, then walked on to the baseball team and made eight appearances in 2016.

About Binghamton:
•   After posting 30 wins last year, the Bearcats have gotten back to 9-15 this year after a three-game sweep of Mass.-Lowell this weekend in America East play. The Bearcats outscored the Riverhawks in the series, 18-3.
•   The Bearcats are batting .238, led by Anthony Meduri's .341 average. Jason Agresti is batting .317, leads with 16 walks and is tied with Meduri for a team-high nine doubles.
•   C.J. Krowiak bats .273 and leads the team in home runs (3), RBI (15) and stolen bases (6).
•   Nick Wegmann, Nick Gallagher and Jacob Wloczewski are Binghamton's weekend starters, thus they are unlikely to pitch against Cornell.  The only other pitcher to start a game for the Bearcats this year is Joe Orlando (1-1, 7.27).
•   Ben Anderson (0-1, 2.12) leads the team with eight relief appearances. Four others have seven and four relievers have a single save apiece.

Series History vs. Binghamton:
•   Cornell holds a 22-15 lead in the all-time series after sweeping the two games between the teams last April.
•   The Big Red won at home, 6-4, on April 12 thanks to five unanswered runs. Matt Collins' first collegiate hit was a towering home run to left field in the seventh.
•   Ellis Bitar was 3-for-5 with a double and a fourth-inning grand slam to power Cornell to a 10-2 victory in the April 26 rematch in Vestal.

Up Next:
•   Cornell wraps up its eight-game home stand this weekend, when it hosts Dartmouth for a three-game Ivy League series.
