WASHINGTON – The Tewaaraton Foundation has announced that Cornell men's lacrosse sophomore
Jeff Teat been named among the 25 nominees for the 2018 Tewaaraton Award, presented by Under Armour. The Tewaaraton Award is recognized as the pre-eminent lacrosse award, annually honoring the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States.
Teat enters the weekend ranked first in the nation in points per game (6.69), second in assists per game (4.00) and 14th overall in goals per game (2.69). The sophomore attackman has 52 assists and 87 points on the season, marks that rank fifth and ninth, respectively, in Cornell history for a single season. Teat is one of just three Big Red players in program history to post 30 goals and 30 assists in back-to-back seasons, and one of just four to have two 70-point seasons in a career.
Cornell has not had player make the official list of nominees since
Connor Buczek '15 and Matt Donovan '15 made the list during the 2015 season, ending a streak of 11 consecutive seasons with at least one player making the final 25.
The Big Red men's lacrosse program has produced two Tewaaraton Trophy winners – Max Seibald in 2008 and Rob Pannell in 2013.
Five men's and five women's finalists will be announced on May 10 and invited to The 18th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony in Washington, D.C., on May 31.
