#4/4 Women's Hockey Holds Off Quinnipiac, 2-1

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The fourth-ranked Cornell women's hockey team bounced back from a tough loss to Princeton with a 2-1 victory over Quinnipiac Saturday afternoon at Lynah Rink. The Big Red is now 9-2-5 on the season and 7-2-1 in ECAC Hockey play, while Quinnipiac drops to 7-13-3 overall and to 6-7-1 in league play.

Joie Phelps scored her first goal of the season to open the scoring. Phelps crashed the net and put home the loose rebound in front of the net after Kendra Nealy fired the initial attempt. The tally came with 13:55 left in the first period.

Things got off to a slow start with neither team placing a shot on net until there was over two minutes of action gone by.

Despite outshooting the Bobcats 16-9 in the second period, Quinnipiac evened up the score with a four-on-four goal from Kati Tabin with 14:44 left in the second frame.

The Big Red wasted little time in the third reclaiming its own one-goal lead. The tally came in transition with Paige Lewis sending the puck forward to Kristin O'Neill. O'Neill collected the puck and gained the offensive zone with Mills trailing behind her charging to the slot. O'Neill then sent the puck to Mills, who buried the game-winner.

Marlène Boissonnault finished the day with 29 saves on 30 shots faced.

The Big Red hits the road for two Ivy League games with the first being at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18, against Dartmouth and the second at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19 against Harvard. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
