ITHACA, N.Y. – The women's squash team took a late lead against eighth-ranked Drexel on Friday evening, but the Dragons swept the final rotation to stave off the upset bid and secure a 5-4 victory over the Big Red at Belkin International Squash Courts.
Steph Tan (No. 9) and
Mimi deLisser (No. 6) won in the first wave of action to give Cornell (1-7), currently 12th in the Dunlop College Squash Rankings, an early 2-1 lead.
Like Tan,
Hannah Scherl (No. 8) also won in three games to account for the Big Red's third point, then
Lily Zelov (No. 2) staved off her opponent for a five-game victory to give Cornell a 4-3 lead. But Drexel (5-5) won each of the last two matches in four games to pull ahead for good.
Cornell hits the road next weekend for non-league matches at 6 p.m. Friday against George Washington and 4 p.m. Saturday at Franklin & Marshall.
