ITHACA, N.Y. – Underclassmen won four matches for the men's squash team on Saturday, but a bid for a second straight upset came up short when Western Ontario pulled ahead for good in the final rotation and a 5-4 victory at Belkin International Squash Courts.
The opening rotation saw a pair of four-game victories to give Cornell (2-6), currently tabbed 16th in the Dunlop College Squash Rankings, a 2-1 lead on 10th-ranked Western Ontario (7-2). Freshman Nicholas Göth Errington continued his winning ways at No. 6, giving him victories in each of his last four times out. Sophomore
Yohann Surti also prevailed at No. 9 for a second straight night.
Freshman
Charles Culhane then rolled to win in three games at No. 2 and
V. Luke Park II, who clinched Friday's win over eighth-ranked Drexel, also swept at No. 7. But Western Ontario ultimately prevailed in its last NCAA match of the regular season, defeating Cornell for a second straight year.
The Big Red hits the road next weekend for matches at Franklin & Marshall at 4 p.m. Saturday and Navy at noon Sunday.
