PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Cornell men's swimming and diving team split a pair of weekend dual meets in Rhode Island. The Big Red topped Bryant 158-84 on Friday before dropping a narrow 164.5-136.5 decision at Brown on Saturday. Cornell closed its meet season with a 4-5 overall record (2-5 Ivy League).
In a back-and-forth meet on Saturday against the Bears, Cornell came out of the gates quickly with wins in the 200 medley relay (
Dylan Curtis,
Slater Goodman,
Jacob Mullin and Jack Mahoney in 1:31.22) and the 1,000 free (Matt Daniel in 9:30.52). Daniel was joined on the podium by teammates
Jake Lawson (9:36.86) and
Jordan Blitz (9:43.38). Curtis added an individual win in the 100 back (50.03) and
Ryan Brown earned victories in the 100 (55.92) and 200 breast (2:03.61).
Daniel won his second distance event of the day by touching first in the 500 free (4:34.03). Brett Hebert took home the top score in the 1-meter diving competition with a 313.13 and was second in the 3-meter (305.40).
Ryan Graff (100 breast, 56.60), Jack Mahoney (50 free, 20.47),
Ricardo Martinez (200 back, 1:49.63) and
James Huang (100 fly, 49.35) each garnered runner-up efforts against the Bears.
Brown closed strong with seven wins in the last nine events to take the dual in both team's final tuneup before the conference championship meet.

Cornell will head back to Brown's Katherine Moran Aquatics Center for the Ivy Championship beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 27.
