LANCASTER, Pa. – With four of the day's nine matches going to the maximum five games, the men's squash team came up on the short end of a 5-4 marathon match against Franklin & Marshall on Saturday evening at Mayser Center Squash Courts.
Cornell (2-8), tabbed No. 16 in the most recent Dunlop College Squash Rankings from two weeks ago, took an early 2-0 lead behind a sweep from
Yohann Surti at the No. 9 position and
Perry Hanson's win in four at No. 3. F&M (9-4), ranked 17th, then scratched out a victory in the day's first five-gamer at No. 6.
The Big Red eventually took a 4-3 lead after
Nikhil Arjunan Iyer (No. 8) and
Andy Muran (No. 1) each in five, but the Diplomats tied the score on Aryan Parekh's 11th consecutive victory from No. 4. That left the balance of the match at No. 7, with
V. Luke Park II rallying from two games down to force a fifth, but F&M's Matthew Dukarm ultimately held on to win. It was the third consecutive meeting between the programs decided by a 5-4 margin.
Cornell wraps up its trip with a visit to 13th-ranked Navy at noon Sunday.
