Beyond The Box Score: Coppin State Game

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Here are some notes from Saturday's 68-66 overtime loss at Coppin State.
 

Individuals 

  • Jimmy Boeheim's 17 rebounds more than doubled his previous career high (eight) and ranks as the seventh-most in a game in school history.
  • Boeheim tied Stone Gettings' effort at Penn in 2018 as the most by a Big Red player since Jeff Foote had 18 in a 104-98 overtime win on Dec. 2, 2009.
  • Eight of his rebounds came on the offensive end, the most by a Cornell player since Foote registered eight in a 78-60 win over Toledo on Nov. 27, 2009.
  • He also tied a career high with two steals and played a best of 40 minutes.
  • Boeheim, Bryan Knapp (six) and Riley Voss (five) all had career high rebounding numbers.
  • Josh Warren posted the sixth game in school history with at least nine points, nine assists and seven rebounds and the first since Devin Cherry had 17 points, 10 assists and seven boards against Brown in 2014.
  • Warren's nine assists were a career high and are the most by a Cornell player since Robert Hatter was credited with 11 in a 2015 victory over Binghamton.
  • Terrance McBride and Dean Noll became the first teammates to be credited with four steals in the same game since Louis Dale and Chris Wroblewski reached that total vs. Vermont on Nov. 28, 2009.
  • Voss had two steals, joining Noll and McBride with career bests in that category..
     

Team 

  • The contest was the first to go into overtime since the Big Red's CIT first round game at Robert Morris last spring, a 98-89 triumph for the Colonials.
  • The Big Red's 54 rebounds were the most in a single game since grabbing 56 against Clarkson in 2010 and the highest total against a Division I opponent since hauling in 59 in a 69-45 triumph over Dartmouth on Feb. 20, 2004.
  • The total is tied for the 11th-most in a game in Cornell history.
  • The squad's 26 offensive rebounds are tied for the second-most in a single game in school history behind only 31 against Hobart on Dec. 11, 1994.
  • The last time Cornell had 26 offensive boards was against Yale on Feb. 7, 1998.
  • Cornell's 79 field goal attempts were the seventh-most in a game in school history and the most since putting up 85 shots at Dartmouth on March 4, 1995.
  • The 34 3-point attempts also tie for seventh in a Cornell game.
  • The Big Red was credited with 14 steals, its most in a game since earning 15 in a 85-67 triumph over Lafayette on Dec. 5, 2015.
  • It reached double figures in steals for the third time this season after doing so just three times in head coach Brian Earl's first 88 contests.
