Beyond The Box Score: Navy Game

11/27/2019 12:30:00 PM

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Here are some notes from Tuesday's 72-61 loss at Navy.

Individuals

  • With 18 points and 11 rebounds against Navy coming off a 25-point, 17-rebound effort at Coppin State, junior Jimmy Boeheim is the first Cornell player to register consecutive double-doubles since Stone Gettings did so against Harvard (32 points, 10 rebounds) and Brown (23 points, 10 rebounds) on Feb. 3 and Feb. 9, 2018.
  • Boeheim's 8-of-8 free throw shooting was the most attempts without a miss by a Big Red player since Matt Morgan went 10-of-10 against Yale on Feb. 16, 2019 - one of five times Morgan hit at least eight free throws without a miss in his career.
  • His 11 rebounds would have been a career high had it not been for Saturday's 17 rebound effort.
  • Freshman Greg Dolan was a perfect 2-for-2 from 3-point range and scored his first eight collegiate points in the second half.
  • It was the first perfect day from beyond the arc with multiple attempts by a Big Red player since Jimmy Boeheim was 2-for-2 in the 2018-19 regular season finale against Dartmouth.
  • Junior Terrance McBride tied a career high by hitting two 3-pointers.
  • Freshman Jordan Jones made his first collegiate start and tallied seven points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal in 20 minutes before fouling out.
  • Riley Voss posted his first career blocked shot.

Team

  • Cornell's bench outscored Navy's 20-4, the first time the Big Red reserves have outscored its opponents (0-5).
  • After shooting 28-129 (.217) over its last four and a half games, Cornell made 4-of-9 3-pointers in the second half at Navy.
  • The win was the Midshipmen's first over Cornell in Annapolis in two meetings - the only previous meeting came on Feb. 13, 1915 - 104 years or 38,272 days ago.
  • Cornell's six-game skid is its longest since the 2015-16 season.
