Kristin O'Neill scored the lone goal for the Cornell women's ice hockey team but it was not enough as the Ohio State Buckeyes won, 3-1, Friday night.
After a scoreless first period, O'Neill opened the scoring in the ninth minute of the second period. Senior forward
Amy Curlew pushed the puck away from the back corner of Cornell's defensive zone. After senior defender
Jaime Bourbonnais picked the puck up, she brought it across the ice for a shot from the blue line. O'Neill collected the rebounded shot and placed it in the net's opposite corner from just outside the goalie crease.
Ohio State answered about four minutes later in a similar fashion. Taking the puck from the goalie, the Buckeyes' Emma Maltais took the puck down the ice for a tying score shot from the right of junior goalie
Lindsay Browning. Ohio State gained the one-goal lead with 30 seconds left in the second as the Big Red enter the final period down, 2-1.
With 11:40 on the third-period clock, Madison Bizal scored a goal to seal the Buckeye win.
Ohio State outshot Cornell, 26-23, with Browning making 23 saves for the Big Red. Cornell held the slight edge in faceoffs, winning 28 of 55 faceoffs.
The Big Red will stay in Columbus, Ohio for a rematch on Saturday (Nov. 30) afternoon at 3 p.m.
