Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Graham Hat Trick Leads #4 Women's Ice Hockey to 5-1 Victory at #6 Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. - Senior Grace Graham earned Cornell women's ice hockey's second hat trick of the season to lead her team to a 5-1 victory over host, #6 Princeton, in ECAC Hockey League play, Friday night.

Graham opened scoring with a deflected shot from sophomore Gillis Frechette. The deflection perfectly placed the puck just above the goalie's pads as it passed into the net right next to the post. Also assisted by junior Willow Slobodzian, Graham scored with 11:14 on the first-period clock.

Senior Paige Lewis tallied the second goal 10:07 into the second period. Taking the puck from the opposite corner, she drove up towards the blue line and back towards the goalie crease for the first even goal of the game.

The Big Red did not let its two-goal lead stop it from dominating the offense during the third period. Scoring three goals in six minutes, Cornell made it impossible for the Tigers to earn the win. About three minutes into the final period, Lewis danced around a defender to gain keep possession of the puck. Once senior Grace Graham was in position just outside the goalie crease, Lewis passed the puck to her for a goal Princeton goalie Rachel McQuigge never saw coming.

One minute and eight seconds into a 5-on-3 power play, senior Micah Zandee-Hart scored her third goal on the season. Taking the puck from behind the net, Zandee-Hart brought the puck around the ice and towards the blue line looking for the shot. As she found the shot, she dumped the puck straight into the net from the center of the blue line.

Just thirty seconds later, Graham scored her second goal of the night. Receiving a pass from Slobodzian, Graham brought the puck through the faceoff circle and into the slot as she lifted it into the goal.

Princeton closed out the game with a late score at 16:05 as Cornell earned the 5-1 win.

Junior goalie Lindsay Browning stopped 23 shots and the Big Red outshot the Tigers, 30-24.

Cornell will return to action tomorrow (Dec. 7) as they take on Quinnipiac at Frank Perrotti Jr. Arena for the final game of 2019. The puck is set to drop at 3 p.m.
