NEW HAVEN, Conn. —Freshman Nicholas Göth Errington and
Nikhil Arjunan Iyer capped perfect 3-0 weekends, and the men's squash team outperformed its seeding at the College Squash Association's Hoehn Cup on Sunday with a 6-3 victory in the 13th-place match over Franklin & Marshall at Brady Squash Center.
Cornell (6-12), which entered the weekend's 'B' Division of the College Squash Association National Championships seeded sixth in the bracket and ranked 14th nationally, also improved three placements over last year's event. Both of the Big Red's victories this weekend came against teams that had defeated it earlier this season.
On Sunday, the avenging came against a 16th-ranked Franklin & Marshall (12-5) squad that upset Navy a day earlier. The Big Red took control early by sweeping the opening rotation, with senior
Perry Hanson (No. 3) and Iyer (No. 9) winning in three games before Göth Errington closed out the No. 6 match in four.
Though the Diplomats got on the board in the next wave, Cornell clinched with three-game victories from sophomore
Yohann Surti (No. 8) and freshman
Charles Culhane (No. 2).
V. Luke Park II tacked on the sixth point by outlasting his opponent at No. 7 in the day's only five-game match.
While the team portion of the schedule is now complete, the Big Red will send competitors to the CSA's Individidual National Championships from March 1-3 in Providence, R.I.
