HARTFORD, Conn. — The women's squash team started strong at the Kurtz Cup on Friday with a dominating 8-1 victory over George Washington in the quarterfinals at Trinity's Kellner Squash Courts.
The lower portion of the ladder was particularly dominant, and the Big Red won six of the eight contested matches in the minimum three games. With the victory, Cornell (6-10) moves into the semifinals of the Kurtz Cup – which is the College Squash Association's 'B' Division national championship. The 11th-ranked Big Red takes on 10th-ranked Virginia at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Big Red instantly jumped into the lead with default victory at No. 9. Sophomore
Mimi deLisser found little resistance in an 11-3, 11-3, 11-4 victory at No. 6, then seniors
Nghi Nguyen (No. 3) and
Hannah Scherl (No. 8) pushed the lead to 4-0 with three-game victories.
Juniors
Lucy Martin (No. 7) and
Colby Gallagher (No. 5) followed suit to clinch the match for Cornell, before junior
Madison Miles (No. 4) and freshman Siva Subramanian (No. 1) tacked on the final points.
