ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell gymnastics team put up a season-high 194.000 to win the Big Red Goes Pink Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Teagle Gymnasium. The Big Red fell just short of the floor record on Senior Day in holding off Brockport (192.575) and Ithaca College (189.375).
The Big Red won all four individual events and three team events to obliterate its previous season high of 192.150. The only event Cornell did not win as a team, floor, saw a 49.050 score - just off the 49.125 record set twice in 2018, the last in the USAG team semifinals. Cornell did post the meet's highest scores on vault (48.825), beam (48.175) and bars (47.950).
Donna Webster led a 1-2-3-4 sweep on vault, scoring a 9.875 to rank No. 3 on the school's all-time list.
Malia Mackey (9.775),
Maci Prescott (9.750) and Sara Maughn (9.725) rounded out the Big Red top four. Mackey also won beam with a 9.800.
Christina Luniewicz and
Lyanda Dudley both scored 9.725's on bars to claim the top spot and
Claire Haklik posted a 9.900 on floor, just ahead of Brockport's Candis Kowalik (9.875) and the Big Red's
Izzy Herczeg (9.850). Haklik's score is tied for No. 3 all-time in Cornell history.
Next up is a quad meet at West Virginia next weekend along with Pitt and Utah State on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. in Morgantown, W.Va.
