ITHACA, N.Y. — Freshman Valerie Ho forced a third set in her collegiate debut at the No. 1 spot in singles, and classmates Maria Adiaconitei and Sarah Campbell were ahead in their doubles match before Harvard secured a 4-0 women's tennis victory over Cornell on Saturday afternoon at Reis Tennis Center.

Reunited at No. 2 doubles this week, Adiaconitei and Campbell were up 5-1 in their match, but the tandem never got a chance to close it out. Harvard (17-6, 5-1 Ivy League) won the other two doubles matches by identical 6-2 scores to take a 1-0 lead.

In singles, freshman Katherine Nguyen was the only competitor from Cornell (6-15, 0-6 Ivy League) to win a first set. Competing at No. 3, she was also ahead in the second set as her match was halted. Ho won her second set at No. 1 and was down a break in the third, but the Crimson locked up the match with wins from 4, 5 and 6.

Cornell concludes its season with a noon Sunday match against Dartmouth at Reis Tennis Center. The match is open to the public and free to attend.
