Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Falls to Princeton, 11-6, in Ivy Semifinal

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The fourth-seeded Cornell women's lacrosse team fell to top-seeded Princeton, 11-6, in the Ivy League Tournament semifinal early Friday evening at Rocco B. Commisson Soccer Stadium.

Princeton's Allie Rogers opened the scoring just over three minutes into the contest. The tally proved to be the first of a 6-0 run for the Tigers (13-3) to start the game. Despite Cornell's early deficit, goalkeeper Katie McGahan came up with four big saves during the stretch.

The Big Red (8-8) got on the board with a goal from Olivia Jensen with 12:52 left in the first half. Cornell added another goal just over a minute later with Grace Paletta scoring to cut the Tigers lead to 6-2. Though, Princeton would end up extending its lead back to six by halftime, as Kyla Sears and Shannon Berry each found the back of net before the break.

Caroline Allen opened the scoring early in second half. After winning the opening draw, Allen charged straight towards the goal, fired a shot and scored to cut the Tigers' lead to five. Allen scored the contest's next goal after a period of 14:10 without either team finding the back of the net.

Shannon Bertscha made it a 3-0 run for the Big Red scoring on a free-position chance with 14:24 remaining to cut Princeton's lead to 8-5.

Princeton's Elizabeth George ended the Princeton scoring drought with just over 13 minutes remaining in the second half to push Princeton's lead back to four.

Allen responded less than a minute later to make the score 9-6, but that was the closest the Big Red would make it as the Tigers closed the contest out with two consecutive goals.

Overall, Cornell had 22 shots on goal compared to Princeton's 20, but Sam Fish, the Ivy League Goaltender of the Year, matched her career high with 16 saves.

McGahan finished with nine saves, five of which came in the second half.
