ITHACA, N.Y. - The Cornell sprint football team fell to Army West Point, 49-0, at Schoellkopf Field, Friday night.
The Black Knights scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and never looked back to finish with a seven-touchdown lead. Matthew Sauter and JC Watson each ran in a touchdown while Jack Felgar scored two on the ground. Justin Charette and Tom Williamson caught a ball from Ryan Sullivan for a pair of touchdowns, with Ben West assisting with a touchdown pass to Preston Pounds.
The Big Red stayed in the game with a total of 10 first downs. Senior captain
Will Griffen ran for a net 34 yards and made three complete passes before being taken out of the game on an injury.
Peter Sanchez led the Cornell defensive line with 12 total tackles.
Seth Henks and
Matt Peck followed close behind with nine and eight stops, respectively.
Julian Iacovelli and
Kai Mulligan combined for a sack of an Army quarterback while Jean Turban and
Marcus Weeks each broke up a play and caused incomplete passes.
The Big Red sprint football team will go back on the road next week as they travel on Sparkill, N.Y. to face Saint Thomas Aquinas at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 5.
