Two Event Champions Lead Women's Track and Field at Penn 8-Team Select

ITHACA, N.Y. - Senior Claire Kao won the pole vault and junior Kellian Kelly won the 200m to lead the Cornell women's track and field team to a second-place finish at the Penn 8-Team Select, Saturday night.
 
The Big Red finished the meet with 62.5 points, which was 7.5 more than third-place Brown and 56 fewer than Penn.
 

Big Hits

  • Sophomore Leone Farquharson jumped 5.87m in the long jump for the ninth-place position in the program's all-time top-ten.
  • Three new IC4A standard performances and five personal records, along with six top-three finishes, led the Big Red.
  • Kelly qualified in the 200m while juniors Elle Orie and Melissa Zammitti qualified for the mile in their first race of the 2019-20 season. 
  • The three new additions to the ECAC standard performances cap off a total of six standards met. Farquharson's personal record long jump qualified for the ECAC Championships, along with Kao and sophomore Maria Siciliano (pole vault).
  • Additionally, four people earned personal records and freshmane Jessica Kolesar matched her previous PR of 4.91m in long jump.
  • Orie and senior Kyleigh Spearing each earned a personal record in the mile. Orie dropped her time by three seconds, while Spearing dropped hers by six. Sophomore Lucy Hurt also earned a personal record in the mile.
