Jaime Bourbonnais and
Micah Zandee-Hart, senior defensemen on the Cornell women's ice hockey team, were named finalists for the ECAC Hockey Defenseman of the Year Award. Clarkson's Ella Shelton is the other finalist for the award. The winner will be announced at the 2020 Women's Ice Hockey Championship Banquet on Friday, March 6.
Bourbonnais averages the second most points per game in the nation (1.31) by a defender, trailing only Franklin Pierce's Bridgette Prentiss. Additionally, she has the fifth highest assists per game average (1.07) among all skaters in the nation, and first of any defender.
Bourbonnais notched at least a point in 27 of the 29 games she's appeared in this season. Overall, the senior defender is seventh in program history with a plus/minus of +88. Her team-leading 31 assists ranks first in the conference while her 38 points leads all ECAC Hockey defenders.
This Mississauga, Ontario native is just six assists shy of entering the top-ten in program history.
Zandee-Hart averages the eighth most points per game in the nation (0.96) by a defender and top-50 among all skaters. Her 0.70 assists per game ranks 22nd in the nation.
Zandee-Hart totaled a career-high four points on two occasions this season. On January 4, against Mercyhurst, she earned four assists then on February 15, at Yale, she notched one goal and three assists.
The Saanichton, British Columbia native's 19 assists is tied for third among all defenders in the ECAC Hockey League, topped by Cornell's own Bourbonnais and Clarkson's Ella Shelton.
Cornell takes on St. Lawrence this weekend in a best of three series at Lynah Rink. The first game will be at 3 p.m. on Friday (2/28) and game two will be played at 3 p.m. on Saturday (2/29). If necessary, the final games of the series will be played at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
