ITHACA, N.Y. - In a high-scoring game, sophomore
Gillis Frechette notched two goals and one assist to lead the Cornell women's ice hockey team to a 7-2 win over St. Lawrence, Friday evening.

Senior
Grace Graham opened the goal-scoring in the seventh minute. Sophomore
Gillis Frechette passed the puck to Graham from the red line for a goal from the slot.

Just 40 seconds later, senior
Kristin O'Neill dumped the puck into the net from the top center of Cornell's offensive zone. Junior
Maddie Mills brought the puck around the St. Lawrence defense to assist the second Big Red score.

As the time reached 59 seconds since the first goal, Frechette earned a penalty shot on the Saints' net. Taking the puck around the right side of the goal, Frechette scored her first goal of the night, and the eventual game-winning goal, from the right-center of the slot.

The Saints were unable to answer and the game entered the first intermission with a 3-0 Cornell lead.

For the lone second-period goal, senior
Paige Lewis made a diving-shot for the Big Red's fourth goal. Lewis grabbed the puck from a rebounded shot by freshman
Izzy Daniel for the 4-on-4 goal.

Six minutes into the third period, the Saints notched their first goal. Freshmen Julia Gosling and Teslak teamed up for the tally. Gosling put Teslak's rebound shot past the goalline.

In another O'Neill-Mills goal, Cornell gained back a four-goal lead as O'Neill notched her second goal of the night. Taking a pass from senior
Jaime Bourbonnais, Mills brought the puck into the offensive zone. O'Neill, skating into the faceoff circle, received a backward pass from Mills and cleanly shot the puck right into the top of the net.

A mere 25 seconds later, a breakaway puck is slightly touched by Frechette for the Big Red's empty-net goal and Frechette's second of the night. As the net emptied, the puck went loose off a Cornell stick, and from the outside defense marker of the faceoff circle, Frechette tipped the puck to end up in goal.

The final five minutes saw two power-play goals. First, Teslak scored her seventh goal of the season from the blue line to notch St. Lawrence's second goal.

The final goal was sophomore
Samantha Burke's first goal of the season. Initially tipped by junior
Finley Frechette, off an insert from junior
Willow Slobodzian, Burke caught the rebound and snuck the puck into the corner of the net for Cornell's final goal.

The Saints outshot the Big Red 22-20 and Cornell earned a 25.0 power play percentage.

Junior goalie
Lindsay Browning saved 20 shots to secure the win.

The Big Red will continue the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinal weekend with the second game against St. Lawrence on Saturday (Feb. 29) at 3 p.m.
