ITHACA, N.Y. -
Doug Derraugh, the head coach of the Cornell women's ice hockey team, was named a finalist for the ECAC Hockey Coach of the Year Award, the league announced this afternoon. Derraugh joins Yale's Mark Bolding and Princeton's Cara Morey as the other two finalists. The winner will be announced at the 2020 Women's Ice Hockey Championship Banquet on Friday, March 6.
Derraugh led the Big Red to its second-straight regular season ECAC Hockey title, as Cornell finished conference play with a 19-0-3 record. The 2020 women's ice hockey team is the first to go undefeated in regular season conference play in ECAC Hockey history. With 41 league points, Cornell earned the most points since the 2010-11 season, in which the team also had 41 points. The Big Red closed the regular-season with an overall mark of 25-1-3, marking the program's fourth consecutive 20-win season.
Cornell is currently ranked first in the nation in both the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls.
The 15th year head coach is a four-time recipient of the award, having won in 2011, 2013, 2017 and 2019.
Cornell will host the ECAC Hockey Championship weekend at Lynah Rink on March 7-8. The Big Red will take on Harvard at 1 p.m. on Saturday with Princeton and Clarkson battling for a championship slot at 4 p.m. The winners of the two semifinal games on Saturday will compete for the tournament title at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
