Five Gymnasts Named All-ECAC

DANBURY, Conn. - Five gymnasts on the Cornell women's gymnastics team were named to the 2020 Division I Women's Gymnastics All-ECAC Teams, as was announced Monday.

In recognition of their stellar season, the top twelve gymnasts in their event are recognized as All-ECAC. The teams are based on their National Qualifying Score (NQS) that the gymnasts accumulated during the season. The NQS is calculated from the top six scores throughout the season. The top score is then dropped and the final five scores are averaged to get the NQS.

Senior Samantha Henry is the sole Big Red gymnast to earn 2020 First Team All-ECAC honors. Her NQS of 9.78 on floor is ranked fourth in the ECAC. Henry has notched a spot on ECAC's All-Floor Exercise First Team for three straight years. In 2018, she finished ranked third and in 2019 she closed the season fourth, behind junior Claire Haklik

Junior Madison Smith earned her second All-ECAC accolade with a spot on the 2020 Second Team All-Floor Exercise. With an NQS of 9.76, she finished in a four-way tie for seventh within the ECAC. Her first All-ECAC honor came in 2018 with a First Team All-Floor Exercise spot.

Similar to floor, Cornell placed two gymnasts on the All-ECAC Balance Beam Teams. Junior Izzy Herczeg and sophomore Miranda Lund were placed on the second team.

Herczeg notched her third total conference award, second on beam, with her second team placement. Her 9.725 NQS finished tied for 10th within the conference on the beam. Herczeg was named to the beam first team in 2018 and the floor first team in 2019.

Lund finished her second season at Cornell with her first postseason accolade. The sophomore earned a 9.73 NQS to close out the year ranked ninth on the beam.

Finally, senior Maci Prescott served as the sole postseason award winner on the vault. Prescott finished her collegiate career with her second Second Team All-ECAC Vault honor. Injured for most of February, Prescott was just coming back to compete when the season came to an abrupt end. Her six total scores on vault calculated to a 9.71 NQS for a 12th-place rank.

In addition to the All-ECAC teams for the individual events, the ECAC announced a total of 58 student-athletes from the six institutions to the All-Academic team. To be eligible, student-athletes must earn a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher. Freshmen are not eligible for the academic team. The Big Red placed 11 of its 18 eligible gymnasts on the 2020 ECAC All-Academic team.

Seniors Mohini Gharpure, Samantha Henry, Evelyn Patient and Maci Prescott earned a place on the 2020 ECAC All-Academic team for the third-straight year. Each of the four seniors notched the honor for all three years of eligibility.

Jessie Aman, Emily Carr, Izzy Herczeg and Madison Smith all claimed the honor for their junior season. Aman, Carr and Herczeg earned the award for the second-straight year while Smith notched her first postseason academic accolade.

Sophomores Valerie Aubley, Miranda Lund and Donna Webster were each named to the ECAC All-Academic team for the first time.
