ITHACA, N.Y. - Cornell women's ice hockey's senior defender
Jaime Bourbonnais was named a finalist for the ECAC Hockey Player of the Year Award. Clarkson's Elizabeth Giguere and Harvard's Dominique Petrie. The winner will be announced at the 2020 Women's Ice Hockey Championship Banquet on Friday, March 6.
Consistently ranking in the top-two defenders in the nation, Bourbonnais currently averages the second-most points per game in the nation (1.29) by a defender, trailing only Franklin Pierce's Bridgette Prentiss. Additionally, she has the fifth-highest assists per game average (1.07) among all skaters in the nation, and first of any defender.
Bourbonnais notched at least a point in 27 of the 29 games she's appeared in this season. Throughout the 2019-20 season, Bourbonnais has ranked in the top-16 in points per game and top-6 in assists per game, spending most of the season in the top-15 and top-5, respectively.
With a team-leading 33 assists, she ranks second in the conference while her 40 points leads all ECAC Hockey defenders. Her 85 career assists is just four away from the program's top-10.
As a defender, Bourbonnais has assisted the Big Red in earning a nation-leading 21-game unbeaten streak. Cornell has not lost a game since November and the defense has allowed more than one goal on just six occasions.
Third in the league, eighth in the nation, Bourbonnais's +37 rank during the 2019-20 season sits tied for ninth in plus/minus in a season while her +88 career rank is tied for seventh in program history.
Cornell takes on Harvard for the league semifinal game on Saturday, March 7 at 1 p.m. at Lynah Rink. Should the Big Red win, it will advance to the ECAC Hockey Championship game on Sunday, March 8 at 2 p.m.
