MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – On the first day of the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships on Monday, sophomore Demetra Williams qualified for the final of the 1-meter diving at West Virginia's Aquatic Center at Mylan Park in Morgantown, W. Va.
After recording a score of 251.80 in the preliminary round, Williams made the cut for finals, heading into her second set of six dives sitting 18th overall. Williams improved significantly in finals, notching 262.20 points to bring her grand total for the day to 514.00 points. This moved her up six spots in the final placings, as she finished 12th overall. Her 12th-place finish is 12 places higher than her 1-meter performance from the 2019 NCAA Zone A Diving Championships where she finished 24th overall.
Competing in the first NCAA Zone A Diving Championships of her career, freshman Elise Jendritz turned in a solid performance, finishing 20th overall with a score of 247.00 in prelims. In total, 62 divers competed in the women's 1-meter diving on Monday.
Williams and Jendritz will return to the pool tomorrow when they compete in the 3-meter diving at noon.
