ITHACA, N.Y. – For the second time in just as many weeks, Cornell men's lacrosse's Jeff Teat saw his name appear on a draft board for a professional lacrosse league, as he was selected 12th overall in Wednesday night's Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) College Draft by the Chaos LC.
The PLL College Draft, which aired on NBC Sports Network, consisted of two rounds, with each of the league's seven teams making one pick in each round for a total of 14 selections. The talented draft pool consisted of college seniors. The recent decision by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to extend the eligibility of 2020 spring athletes did not affect the eligibility to be drafted in the PLL College Draft. Should a drafted player choose to return to NCAA play for the 2021 season, the selected individual would re-enter the PLL College Draft in 2021.
Teat's selection in Wednesday night's draft comes just over a week after he was picked 25th overall in the 2020 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Collegiate Draft by the Boston Cannons. With the Premier Lacrosse League in just its second season of competition, Teat becomes the second player in Big Red history to be taken in the PLL Collegiate Draft, joining Clarke Petterson '19, who was chosen as the fifth overall pick by Redwoods LC in 2019.
Teat was one of three Ivy League men's lacrosse student-athletes to be selected in the draft, as Yale's Matt Gaudet (5th overall, Chaos LC) and Aidan Hynes (10th overall, Atlas LC) were also chosen.
Teat is a two-time Tewaaraton Trophy Nominee, three-time USILA All-American, and four-time Inside Lacrosse Media All-American. He has received All-Ivy accolades on three occasions, including unanimous first-team All-Ivy selections in 2018 and 2019. During the 2020 campaign, Teat moved into third all-time in career points (268) at Cornell, also sitting third in the Big Red record books in career assists (152) and ninth in career goals (116). He is just one of two players in Cornell history to post three-straight 30-goal, 30-assist seasons and is just one of four to amass 70 points in three-consecutive campaigns from 2017-19. Teat is also just the eighth player in Ivy League history to score 250 career points.
