ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's sailing team qualified for the ACC Finals in two weekends with its sixth-place finish at the semifinal regatta this weekend at St. Mary's (Md.). The Big Red also took a fourth-place finish at Georgetown's Tom Curtis Regatta.

Needing to finish in the top nine of 16 teams - including 11 teams in the top 20 - the Big Red sat in qualifying position all weekend with the B division entry of Bridget Green and Gabbi DelBello finishing fifth. Brooke Shachoy and Lillian Myers skippered A division with Amelia Neumann and took 12th, with Jana Laurendeau in reserve.

B division had six top five race finishes, including winning the final race of the weekend to clinch sixth. A division opened the weekend with a third-place effort and had six top 10 finishes in the weekend's 13 races.

At Georgetown, the Hoyas easily won their regatta, but Cornell made up significant ground on second and third place before eventually finishing third in the three division combined scoring meet. A division (J.J. Smoth and Rocco Cappetta), B division (Lucija Ruzevic and Lilly Bjerke) and C division (Lauren Ehnot and Isabel Dhar) all finished within four spots of each other.

The Big Red will sail the Coed ACC semifinals at Brown and the Stu Nelson Women's Regatta at Connecticut College next weekend.
