ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell women's polo team found itself in a big hole early that it was unable to dig its way out of, as Garrison Forest dealt the Big Red a 20-8 loss on Friday, Oct. 29 at the Oxley Equestrian Center in Ithaca, N.Y.
Garrison Forest used an eight-goal first chukker to quickly pull away from the Big Red, as Cornell trailed 8-1 at the end of the first after a goal from Lea Jih-Vieira. Cornell did its best to not let the margin widen further in the second chukker, heading into half finding itself down 12-4. Jasmine Umrigar notched a pair of her three goals for the contest in the chukker, while Jih-Vieira added another.
Both teams scored twice in the third chukker, but Garrison Forest outscored the Big Red 6-2 in the fourth to take the game by a score of 20-8. Jih-Vieira scored a team-high four goals in the game, and combined with Umrigar's three, the pair scored seven of Cornell's eight goals in the contest.
With the loss, the Big Red's record sits at an even 3-3 on the season. The Cornell women's polo team will look to get back in the win column tomorrow when it takes on Harvard at 12 p.m. in Cambridge, Mass.
