Men’s Swimming and Diving Tallies 13 Top-Five Finishes Against Harvard, Dartmouth

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell men's swimming and diving team notched 13 individual top-five finishes in its Ivy League tri-meet against Harvard and Dartmouth on Saturday at Ithaca College's Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium in Ithaca, N.Y.

Despite the number of top-five showings, the Big Red fell to both Dartmouth (159.50-138.50) and Harvard (233-65), falling to 1-2 on the season and 0-2 in conference action.

Freshman Sebastian Wolff and junior Jacob Bass each tallied a pair of top-five finishes on the day for the Big Red. The duo teamed up in the 100 breaststroke, placing fourth (57.39) and fifth (57.79), respectively. Wolff added a fifth-place finish in the 200 IM (1:55.21), while Bass posted a fifth-place showing in the 200 breaststroke (2:07.81).

Van Cates and Taylan Ercan each recorded a top-five placement in their respective backstroke events, with Cates clocking in at 52.87 to place fifth in the 100 backstroke and Ercan touching the wall in 1:54.49 in the 200 backstroke to finish fifth.

Jameson Crandell and Matthew Warren represented Cornell well in the diving events, with Crandell placing fourth in the 3-meter (302.85) and Warren finishing fifth in the 1-meter (287.65).

Jeremy Marcin and Joseph Gurski secured the final individual top-five finishes for the Big Red. Gurski finished his 100 butterfly race in 51.03 to place fourth and Marcin placed fifth in the 50 freestyle in 21.02.

The Cornell men's swimming and diving team will be back in action on Nov. 19-20 when it travels to Penn for an Ivy League tri-meet with the Quakers and Princeton. Diving is slated for Nov. 19, with swimming following on Nov. 20 at 12 p.m.
