Balanced Scoring Helps Women’s Polo Top Michigan State, 13-7

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell women's polo team shared the spotlight on Friday night against Michigan State, utilizing balanced scoring to down the Spartans, 13-7, at the Oxley Equestrian Center in Ithaca, N.Y.

Familiar and new faces alike contributed to the Big Red victory, as the win over the Spartans was a total team effort. In total, seven different Cornell student-athletes scored a goal in the contest, and three Big Red players made their season debuts.

The Big Red was led offensively by Rachel Booth and Sophia Neis, who scored three goals apiece. Jasmine Umrigar also notched multiple goals in the contest with two, and Lea Jih-Vieira scored two points in the game, netting a two-point score in the second chukker.

Valeria Marques Valdivia got in on the scoring action, recording a goal of her own. Alice Buckley and Katherine Cornett posted the remaining two Cornell goals of the contest, each scoring their first goals of the season in their season debuts. Kathleen Clifford also suited up for the Big Red for the first time this season, making her first appearance of the year.
