AKRON, Ohio – Junior freestyler Melissa Parker led the Cornell women's swimming and diving team on the first day of Akron's Zippy Invitational, cracking the Big Red's all-time top-10 list in the 50 freestyle and helping Cornell's 200 freestyle relay team to a top-10 mark of its own on Friday at the Ocasek Natatorium in Akron, Ohio.

Parker helped the Big Red start off Friday's finals on a high note, as the 200 freestyle relay team of Parker, Sophia Tsai, Anna Gruvberger, and Priscilla Wongso notched the ninth-fastest time in Cornell women's swimming and diving history, finishing sixth overall in 1:33.64.

Parker wasn't finished however, as she made the A Final of the 50 freestyle with her time of 23.15 in prelims, a mark which sits fifth all-time in the Big Red record books. She went on to place eighth overall in finals with a time of 23.40. Priscilla Wongso also posted a Cornell all-time top-10 mark in the event, placing 12th with the 10th-fastest time in Big Red history (23.39).

Demetra Williams and Elise Jendritz excelled in the 1-meter diving, both making finals among 28 divers. Williams was Cornell's top finisher in the event, placing third with 263.70 points. Jendritz's 249.80 points was good for sixth.

In the 500 freestyle, it was once again Parker, along with Allie Danko, that turned in solid performances. Danko made the B Final, finishing 16th overall in 5:04.15. Parker emerged victorious in the C Final, placing 17th overall with a time of 4:59.73.

After the first day of competition, Cornell sits in fifth place among 10 teams with 245 points. The Big Red trails fourth-place Oakland (320.50 points) by 75.50 points. Akron leads the field with 651 points.

Day two of the Zippy Invitational will commence for the Cornell women's swimming and diving team on Saturday. Prelims are slotted for a 9 a.m. start, with diving set for approximately 1:30 p.m. and finals finishing off the day at 6 p.m.
