Kate Michelini posted top 10 all-time scores on two events and the Big Red gymnastics team upped its season-opening score by three full team points in a Sunday afternoon dual meet against West Chester. The Golden Rams took a competitive 192.475-191.900 win away from Newman Arena, capturing three individual events.
Michelini won on bars (9.825) and tied for first on floor (9.850) to highlight a strong effort by the Big Red. Her floor score is ninth all-time at Cornell, while her bars effort is tied for 10th. Michelini also posted the squad's second-highest beam score with a 9.625.
Freshman
Sydney Beers had a strong day in the all-around, with her 38.450 good for the sixth-best score ever at Cornell. She took second on both vault (9.625) and beam (9.725), while her highest event score of 9.775 was good for eighth on floor.
Cornell scored a 48.875 on floor, just a quarter-point off the team record of 49.125. In all, the Big Red boosted its score up from its season-opening 188.825 last weekend.
Senior
Miranda Lund (third on vault, 9.575) and sophomore
Melanie Stone (second on bars, 9.700) also had top three event finishes against West Chester.
The Big Red will head to Ohio next weekend for a dual meet at Kent State on Friday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m.
